Project goal

Project goal is public advocacy for bringing a general antidiscriminatory law through public debates on the basic antidiscriminatory subjects as well as raising public awareness on the haste need for leveling domestic legislature with the international standards with the aim to enhance the rule of law in Serbia.
 
Project target group
 
Public officials (municipal and district courts, municipal and district prosecution, police, Centres for Social work, Departments of National Service for Employment, People’s deputies, representatives of local parliament), media and citizens’ associations.
 
Brief overview of the realized activities
 
The project was started with the activities in Negotin on 2nd February, 2006 and six round tables and six TV shows were organized in six cities and at the end of the project realization, an article was printed in six local papers:

10th February, 2006 – Novi Sad

 

13th February, 2006 – Nis

 

14th February, 2006 – Vranje

 

2nd March, 2006 – Novi Pazar

 

 

  Achieved results
 
Quantity analysis of this project phase realization shows that we have succeeded in animating the representatives of the key institutions on the local level to take part and that this phase has successfully been realized; furthermore, it shows that it is necessary to continue with public advocacy and additional education and sensibilizing of the representatives of the stated institutions on the local level. In the work of the six round tables, 136 representatives in total from 12 different institutions / organizations in the six cities took place:

Municipal Management (Centres for Social work, Municipal Offices of Legal Aid and the like) - 21

Attorneys – 16

 

Political organizations - 9

 

Nongovernment organizations – 39

 

Media – 17

 

Media coverage was good and it entailed:

Presence/reporting of the happening itself (printed and electronic media)

  • TV station 13; Radio station 7; Printed Media 5; Newspaper agency 1, 
  • Broadcasting 6 separate TV shows (potential 2.500.000 viewers) “Open Forum ‘ Public Support of Reforms within the Rule of Law” on six TV stations in six cities;
  • Broadcasting special interviews with the participants of the round tables (electronic media) 9.

The text before you represents the resume of the project of the Committees for Human Rights Network in Serbia – CHRIS titled "Open forum –Public Support of Reforms within the Rule of Law ", with the aims being public advocacy for the general antidiscriminatory  law passing and public debate dealing with the basic antidiscriminatory  subjects.
